Xu Residence

The brief involves a comprehensive renovation and major extension to an existing large residence in Donvale. The internal planning is to be completely reconfigured to create a new family home tailored to a multi-generational household of nine. The proposed program includes seven bedrooms, a new gym, a dedicated home theatre, a library, and additional supporting amenities.

A key challenge—and a highlight of the project—is the client’s request for six distinct bedroom interiors, reflecting each child’s desire for a unique and personalised space.

The design approach retains the character and language of the existing façade, while introducing a generous carport veranda to strengthen the home’s arrival and streetscape presence. Internally, a contemporary design direction is proposed, delivering a modernised spatial experience aligned with the client’s lifestyle and family needs.
