Jiangzi BBQ Fish

The brief was to design and document a Chinese-style BBQ fish restaurant in Box Hill. The concept was inspired by the idea of “a river in the sky”—an immersive scene where fish appear to swim above your head as you dine below.

To bring this atmosphere to life, we layered robust, textural materials such as cement render and brick tiles to create a grounded, urban backdrop throughout the seating area. In contrast, disco-effect LED lighting was introduced to add movement, energy, and an eye-catching glow—elevating the dining experience and giving the space a lively, contemporary edge.

A key highlight is the fish-scale feature along the shopfront, designed as a bold visual signature that draws attention from the street and reinforces the restaurant’s identity. Overall, the space is crafted as a fun and memorable destination—perfect for young families and groups of friends to enjoy BBQ fish in a unique, vibrant setting. Experience it for yourself!
