Dumpling Chef Melbourne Centre
The brief involved the design and documentation of a new Dumpling Chef tenancy at Melbourne Central, including an internal seating area for dine-in service.
The primary site constraints were a low ceiling height and a generally dim mall environment. In response, the design places strong emphasis on lighting strategy—using layered general, feature, and ambient lighting to lift the ceiling plane, improve visual comfort, and ensure the tenancy reads clearly within the surrounding precinct.
A contemporary “Chinese window” element is incorporated into the shopfront as a key feature, creating depth and visual interest at the threshold. This detail is designed to slow passing pedestrians, provide a glimpse into the interior, and encourage customers to enter.
